tobacco use Problem iN CYPRESS, GARDEN GROVE, AND WESTMINSTER PARKS
WHY SMOKE-FREE Parks are important
Smoke-free parks protect children, older adults, families, pets, and the environment from dangerous tobacco litter and secondhand smoke. Two-thirds of Orange County cities have smoke-free parks, but Cypress, Garden Grove, and Westminster do not. Click on the packet below to learn about the benefits of smoke-free parks.
using gis Mapping to engage the community in smoke-free parks
TUPP uses the software ArcGIS to map all of the parks in Cypress, Garden Grove and Westminster as well as the schools and youth centers that are close to each park. This enables the coalition to engage residents, youth and community organizations in project activities at parks that are accessible to them.
The maps have promoted the planning of various smoke-free parks activities such as a tobacco litter park cleanup with the Westminster High School Smoke-Free Parks Club in which nearly 400 cigarette butts were collected.
